Whew! Halloween has come and gone and we're on the glide slope into cranberry season. Here's what we're cookin' for your holiday delight.

Schedule for the Remainder of 2024

Although Cade has officially beaten cancer, he's still opted to undergo few minor, elective surgeries to decrease his probability of recurrence. Because of those procedures, and the associated diagnostic tests, our schedule has been thrown off in some "funny-not-funny" ways over the next few weeks.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 20 — closed all day
  • Thursday, Nov. 21 — closed all day
  • Wednesday, Nov. 27 — holiday break
  • Thursday, Nov. 28 — Happy Thanksgluttony!
  • Friday, Nov. 29 — open 11a to 7p (expanded hours!)
  • Saturday, Nov. 30 — open 9a to 1p (weekend hours!)
  • Monday, Dec. 2 — open at noon
  • Monday, Dec. 9 — closed all day
  • Tuesday, Dec. 17 — open at noon

Beginning Wednesday, Dec. 4, we're back to being open until 8p on Wednesdays, and the Salon program resumes. We temporarily discontinued Salons in November to support in-person writing events sponsored by the West Michigan Author Alliance.

We're closed the week of Christmas and the week of New Year's. So, our last day of business in 2024 is Dec. 20, and we'll reopen on January 6, 2025.

Plans for 2025

Our holiday break will not be spent solely on relaxing. We're tearing the bookstore down stem-to-stern to do a bunch of stuff, including:

  • Changing our pricing model. Right now, all used books are $5. We're changing that — to put books into various price tiers, lower and higher. The highest-tier pricing will also be pushed online.
  • Re-orienting the store. We're adding more carts and will change the order of the carts to accommodate the additional ones, plus table seating beneath the west windows. All used books will be stickered and alphabetized within their genre categories. And, uh, they will be out of boxes. 😅
  • Hours change. Our hours will likely change a bit, in partnership with Fourth Form Martial Arts Studio.
  • Limits on the book buyback program. We're likely going to open buyback windows by genre as needed, instead of an open-ended program.
  • Expansion of new books. We've been working toward a sustainable revenue stream to allow us to stock a broad selection of both literary journals and new titles by local authors and regional small presses. We plan to start the new year with a much larger selection of curated new titles.

Stay safe, stay warm, and stay well-read this holiday season!
